Moon Roof - Wind Rush/Throbbing Noise

ACCESSORIES
AX004-99

May 14, 1999

Title:
MOON ROOF WIND THROB

Models:
'99 RX 300 (with Moon Roof & Genuine Fixed Roof Rack)

Introduction

A production change to the Moon Roof has been made on RX 300s to reduce a Wind Rushing Noise from the Roof Deflector Panel when the Moon Roof is open. When an Accessory Roof Rack is installed with the Cross Bars positioned as shown in the Dealer Installation Instructions on an RX 300 with the Modified Moon Roof with open position, a throbbing sound is created. This throbbing sound can be prevented by installing the Cross Bars in a new position. The dimensions given in the Installation Instructions have been modified to reflect this change.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Lexus Accessory Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Procedure

Roof Rack Installers need to be certain that the Front and Rear Adapters for the Cross Bars are installed as shown, using the dimensions given in the illustration.

^ Before any RX 300, after the affected VINs, is delivered with a Roof Rack already installed, the dimensions should be checked to make certain the Cross Bar Adapters are properly located as shown in this bulletin.

^ If a customer complains of a Wind Throb when the Moon Roof is open, check to make certain the Cross Bar Adapters are properly located as illustrated.

^ If the Cross Bar Adapters are not installed as shown in the illustration, the Cross Bars must be removed, the Adapters re-located, and the Cross Bars reinstalled to prevent Wind Throb complaints.
