Update Prior to Sale: Engine High-Pitched 'Whistle' Sound
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover Evoque (LV)
VIN: Specific VINs only; see attached list

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation:
A potential concern has been identified with a limited number of 2012 model year Range Rover Evoque vehicles where a high-pitched 'whistle' sound may be heard from the engine.
Action:
Retailers are required to HOLD the affected vehicles within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new or used vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action detailed in this Technical Bulletin. For vehicles in retailer inventory, this UPS should be performed in conjunction with the vehicle PreDelivery Inspection (PDI). For vehicles in retailer inventory which have already had the PDI completed, this UPS should be completed prior to final preparation / customer handover. For those vehicles already in the hands of customers, this should be done at the next available opportunity prior to the expiration date.

Always check DDW to verify that the vehicle is affected by this Update Prior to Sale notice or any other campaign prior to undertaking any repair as some vehicles may have been repaired in port. DDW reflects only those vehicles affected and un-repaired.
NOTE:

Warranty claims should be submitted quoting the Program Code Q200 together with the relevant Option Code; this will result in payment of the stated time. As Option Codes are used, there is no requirement to enter SRO information; these are displayed for information only. The option that allows for drive in / drive out may only be claimed if the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken. This Update Prior to Sale notice is valid for a limited time only and will expire on 30 August 2012. All Warranty claims up to this date must be submitted for payment within 30 days of completion of the repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
CHECK FOR ENGINE 'WHISTLE' SOUND
1. Refer to SSM55577 and listen to example of engine high-pitched 'whistle' sound.
CAUTION:
Make sure the park brake is 'ON' and the vehicle transmission is in Park (P).
CAUTION:
Do not listen for 'whistle' sound from outside vehicle.
2. While sitting in the driver's seat with all doors closed, parking brake 'ON', and the transmission in Park (P), start the engine and allow it to idle for 10 seconds.
^ Listen for a 'whistle' sound from the engine.
3. Raise the engine speed at 2,200 rpm; hold for 10 seconds:
^ Listen for a 'whistle' sound from the engine.
4. Vary the engine speed between 2,200 - 2,400 rpm for 10 seconds:
^ Listen for a 'whistle' sound from the engine.
5. Let engine return to idle speed for 10 seconds:
^ Listen for a 'whistle' sound from the engine.
6. If a whistle sound is not heard at any time during steps 2-5, no further action is required; vehicle may be released.
7. If a whistle sound is heard at any time during steps 2-5, use a digital sound recording device and record the 'whistle' sound:
^ Place the recording device on the instrument panel above the instrument cluster
^ Record the 'whistle' sound while repeating steps 2-5.
8. Submit the sound file via Technical Assistance (TA) request for further instructions.
