RIO FRONT MUFFLER PIPE HANGER BRACKET REPLACEMENT





Some Rio vehicles produced from February 25, 2008 to July 10 2011 may experience a rattling noise while driving emanating from under the vehicle This condition may be due to the separation of the front muffler pipe hanger bracket (A) from corrosion. Inspect the front muffler pipe hanger bracket to verify partial or complete separation from the muffler pipe and confirm this as the source for the noise concerns

To correct this condition without replacing the front muffler pipe assembly Kia is making a replacement bracket kit available as a service part Follow the procedure in this bulletin to install a new bracket

Front Muffler Pipe Hanger Bracket Inspection:

1. Pace the vehicle on a lift.





Locate the front muffler pipe hanger bracket (A). Photo insert shows an old, damaged hanger bracket





2. Check to determine whether the front muffler pipe hanger bracket (A) has become partially or completely separated from the muffler pipe (B).

3. If the front muffler pipe hanger bracket has completely separated from the front muffler, replace it with a new bracket, following the replacement procedure. If the front muffler pipe hanger bracket is only partially separated, separate it completely from the front muffler by cutting or grinding the welds.

CAUTION

Use care when removing the welded part so as not to damage the front muffler flex pipe assembly

Front Muffler Pipe Hanger Bracket Replacement Procedure:





1. Remove the old front muffler pipe hanger including the rubber hangers from the vehicle.

Install the removed rubber hangers onto the new front muffler pipe hanger bracket as shown








2. Install the new front muffler pipe hanger bracket (C) over the origins mounting ocation (between existing welds)

3. Rotate bracket to ensure rubber hangers align properly

4. Secure the hanger bracket in place using two (2) nuts

5. Tighten the mounting nuts to specified torque

Tightening torque:

29~43 lb-ft (40~60 Nm)
