SERVICE ACTION: 2012MY OPTIMA (QF) ADDITIONAL BODY SEAM SEALER (SA121)

This bulletin provides information related to the body seam sealer as applied on some 2012MY Optima (QF) vehicles produced from January 2, 2012 to January 9, 2012 which may require additional underbody sealer on the front left-hand side and/or front right-hand side. To ensure maximum customer satisfaction Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2012MY vehicles.





NOTICE:
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall> Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

This issue number is SA121.

Service Procedure:





1. Set the lift and raise the vehicle to provide sufficient room to get under the vehicle.

2. Carefully inspect the area next to rocker panel behind both left and right front tires to see if additional seam sealer is required.

NOTICE:
The front right-hand side is shown in the photo; the front left-hand side will be the same general areas.

It is important that you only apply sealer on exposed areas.

Photo shows an example of an area that would require additional seam sealer.





3. Apply recommended seam sealer to the areas that require additional seam sealer.

CAUTION:
Protective gloves should be worn when applying sealer.





Sealer is shown in the photo after application.





4. Pack sealer into gaps and smooth excess sealer using shop towel or putty knife.

NOTICE:
Allow approximately 30 minutes for seam sealer to air dry and properly cure.





5. After sealer has had time to cure, apply 3M Rubberized Undercoating spray on top of repair area until seam sealer is no longer visible.

Repeat steps 1-4 for opposite side of the vehicle.
