SUBJECT: SERVICE ACTION: RIO (JB) BATTERY CABLE TERMINAL REPLACEMENT (SA100)

This bulletin provides information relating to the Positive (+) and Negative (-) battery cable terminal replacement on 2011 MY Rio vehicles produced from May 01, 2011 to June 30 2011. Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected Rio (JB) vehicles prior to delivery. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of the affected VINs.





*NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall> Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

This issue number is SA100.

Service Procedure:





1. Open the hood to access battery.

*NOTICE
Record customer's radio stations before disconnection battery.

Remove the Negative (-) battery cable connecting nut (A) and separate the Negative (-) battery cable (B) from the battery cable terminal by lifting upward.

Loosen the Negative (-) battery cable terminal nut (C).





2. Remove the Negative (-) battery cable terminal (D).





3. Open the Positive (+) battery terminal cover (E).

Remove the Positive (+) battery cable mounting nut (F).

Loosen the Positive (+) battery cable terminal nut (G) and remove the Positive (+) battery cable terminal plate (H) from the Positive (+) battery terminal.





4. Separate the Positive (+) battery cable (I) from the battery cable terminal.





5. Separate the Positive (+) battery cable terminal (J) from the Positive (+) battery cable terminal plate (K) by pushing it in the direction of the arrow.

6. Install the new Positive (+) battery cable terminal in reverse order of removal.

Install the new Negative (-) battery cable terminal in reverse order of removal.

+/- Battery cable terminal torque specs: 5.8-7.2 lb-ft (7.8-9.8 Nm)

Reprogram radio station presets as recorded in step 1.
