SERVICE ACTION: OPTIMA HEV NVLD REPLACEMENT (SA089)

This bulletin provides information relating to some Optima Hybrid vehicles produced from start of production to September 20, 2011 that may experience MIL on and DTC P0456 stored due to an incorrectly functioning NVLD (Natural Vacuum Leakage Detection) pressure sensor assembly. To correct this issue replace the NVLD pressure sensor assembly with a new one following the Service Procedure outlined below. To ensure maximum customer satisfaction Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2011 MY Optima (TF HEV) vehicles.





*NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall> Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

This issue number is SA089.

Service Procedure:

1. Turn off the ignition key and lift up the vehicle.





Locate the NVLD pressure sensor on the left side of the fuel tank as indicated by the circle in the photo.





2. Disconnect the NVLD pressure sensor wiring connector (A).

CAUTION
Make sure a click sound is heard when reconnecting the NVLD wiring connector to ensure a positive connection.





3. Disconnect the ventilation hoses (B).

CAUTION
When reinstalling the ventilation hoses, be careful not to twist them.





4. Remove the NVLD pressure sensor assembly (D) by unfastening 3 bolts (C).

Install a new NVLD pressure sensor assembly and reinstall all removed components in reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque:
1.7 - 2.5 lb-ft (2.3 - 3.3 Nm)
