SUBJECT:
SERVICE ACTION: OPTIMA HEV HYBRID COOLING FAN RESISTOR REPLACEMENT (SA094)

This bulletin provides information about some Optima Hybrid vehicles produced from Job #1 to September 17, 2011 where the cooling fan resistor might crack. If the cooling fan resistor is cracked the cooling fan operation may be affected. To ensure maximum customer satisfaction Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2011MY Optima Hybrid vehicles. Before conducting this Service Action verify that the vehicle is included in the list of the affected VINs.





*NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall> Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

This issue number is SA094.

Service Procedure:





1. Place the ignition key into the 'OFF' position.

Open the hood, and then remove the air duct (A) by loosening the two mounting bolts.

Tightening Torque: 5.8 - 8.7 lb-ft (7.8 - 11.8 Nm)





2. Disconnect the two wiring connectors (B) from both sides of the cooling fan resistor.





3. Using a Phillips screwdriver or a 7mm wrench, remove the cooling fan resistor (C) by loosening the mounting screw and then install the new part and reconnect both connectors.

*NOTICE
Make sure a positive click is heard when reconnecting cooling fan resistor connectors.





4. Reinstall the air duct in reverse order of removal.

5. Check if any incidental Diagnostic Trouble Codes DTC(s) have been created; clear any DTC(s) that may be present.

6. Check that cooling fan cycles ON and OFF properly with A/C ON.
