SERVICE ACTION: POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TERMINAL REPLACEMENT (SA084)
This bulletin provides information relating to some 2011 MY Optima vehicles produced from May 17, 2011 to June 22, 2011 that may have a previous design positive battery cable terminal and will need to be replaced with an improved part design. To ensure maximum customer satisfaction Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2011 MY Optima (TF) vehicles.

A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Service Procedure:
*NOTICE
Record customer's radio stations before disconnecting battery.
1. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable terminal (A) from the battery.
2. Partially loosen the 10mm positive battery cable terminal hex nut (B) and remove the 12mm mounting hex nut (C).
3. Move sensor (D) aside to gain access to the cable terminals. Lift cables upward to remove.
4. Slide positive terminal rearward from its original position on its base; then lift upward to remove.
5. Install new positive battery cable terminal in reverse order of removal.
Reconnect the negative battery cable terminal.
Tightening torque:
B: 5.7-6.5 lb-ft (7.8-8.8 Nm)
C: 7.2-8.6 lb-ft (9.8-11.7 Nm)
6. Reprogram radio station presets as recorded in step 1.
