SERVICE ACTION: 2011 MY OPTIMA AUDIO INSPECTION (SA071)
This bulletin provides information regarding a possible audio unit concern on 2011MY Optima vehicles produced from start of production - 11/1/2010. The Audio unit may not operate properly or the LCD display may not function as designed. The inspection procedure outlined in this bulletin will assist in identifying this issue. To ensure maximum customer satisfaction Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2011 MY Optima vehicles. Please perform this Service Action for all dealer in stock units prior to retail sales. Use the following procedure to inspect for the condition. It will be necessary to contact Techline prior to replacing an audio unit to confirm the condition and obtain release of a re-placement part.
Some 2011 MY (TF) vehicles may exhibit audio LCD display malfunctions as indicated above.
*NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service > Warranty Coverage > Warranty Coverage Inquiry > Campaign Information ). Not Completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs > Not Completed Recall > Recall VIN > Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.
The issue number is SA071.
Inspection Procedure:
1. Press the "POWER" button on and off several times, and then check that the letters/numbers appear normal on the LCD display.
2. Press the "SAT" button and check that Satellite radio signal is being received properly.
3. Rotate the "POWER" button clockwise/ counterclockwise to check that the volume is functioning properly.
4. Select FM/AM mode, then press the "SEEK" button up and down to check that radio frequency changes and radio reception is normal.
5. Press the "SCAN" button to check that radio frequency changes and reception is normal.
6. Press the "MUTE" button and the PRESET buttons (1 - 6) to check that they are functioning properly.
7. Check that Pair Mode is properly entered.
A) Press the "SETUP" button.
B) Using the right knob, select "Phone" and "Pair" in sequence.
C) Check that the Pair Mode is normally displayed as indicated in the photo.
8. Gently strike the top of the crashpad and tap the four (4) corners of LCD frame several times, and check that the LCD display is functioning normally.
If any malfunction or defect is found during the above steps, open a Techline Case via web. After case has been opened, Techline will contact dealer for further instructions and procedures.
*NOTICE
Do NOT Replace audio unit. A Techline Case will need to be generated and authorization will need to be granted prior to the replacement.
Do NOT order any parts; a part order will automatically be generated once TechLine has authorized a replacement.
If replacement is necessary, note old and new ESN. Call SIRIUS at 866-516-6222 to request subscription swap. Make sure you have old and new ESN available.
