SUBJECT: SERVICE ACTION: FORTE (TD) BATTERY CABLE TERMINAL REPLACEMENT (SA102)
This bulletin provides information relating to the Positive (+) and Negative (-) battery cable terminal replacement on Forte vehicles produced from May 01, 2011 to June 30, 2011. Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2011/12MY Forte (TD) vehicles prior to delivery. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of the affected VINs.
*NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall> Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.
This issue number is SA102.
Service Procedure:
1.Open the hood to access battery.
*NOTICE
Record customer's radio stations before disconnecting battery.
Check if the vehicle is equipped with a battery sensor.
Condition 1: With battery sensor (A) DO NOT replace the Negative (-) battery terminal.
Condition 2: Without battery sensor (B) Replace both (+) / (-) battery terminals with new parts.
2. Remove the Negative (-) battery cable connecting nut (A) and separate the Negative (-) battery cable (B) from the battery cable terminal by lifting upward.
Loosen the Negative (-) battery cable terminal nut (C).
3. Remove the Negative (-) battery cable terminal (D).
4. Open the Positive (+) battery terminal cover (E).
Remove the Positive (+) battery cable mounting nut (F).
Loosen the Positive (+) battery cable terminal nut (G) and remove the Positive (+) battery cable terminal plate (H) from the Positive (+) battery terminal.
5. Separate the Positive (+) battery cable (I) from the battery cable terminal.
6. Separate the Positive (+) battery cable terminal (J) from the Positive (+) battery cable terminal plate (K) by pushing it in the direction of the arrow.
7. Install the new Positive (+) / Negative (-) battery cable terminal in reverse order of removal.
Reprogram radio station presets as recorded in step 1.
Tightening torque specs above.
