This bulletin provides information related to Soul models produced from 1/8/2009 ~ 9/13/2009. Some Soul customers with manual transaxles may complain the vehicle maybe difficult to get into first (1st) gear when coming to a stop. To repair this concern replace the transaxle gear shifter lower skirt, complete shifter assembly replacement is NOT necessary.

- Service Procedure





1. Apply Parking Brake and unscrew the shift knob by turning counter-clockwise.





2. Remove the spring and damper, careful not to allow the grease to get in contact with the seats or center console area.





3. Remove the shifter boot by pulling to the side and releasing the retainer clips.





4. While holding the upper skirt; pull to separate the lower skirt from the upper skirt assembly.





5. While holding the upper skirt push the new lower skirt into position as shown in photo.





6. Shown is the correct assembly, the unit is ready for installation to the vehicle.





7. Install with the reverse lock-out on the left side as shown.

Apply small amount of lubricant on the replacement part that rides on the steel shaft.

8. Snap the shifter boot back into place as shown.

9. Install spring and damper.





10. Install shifter knob by screwing down in a clock-wise direction. Make sure the orientation is correct.
