Service Action: Audio Software Update for 2010 Soul (SA009) (Body - 045)

- Description

This bulletin provides the procedure to update audio software in 2010MY Souls produced prior to 05/05/2009. Unless the audio unit in these 2010MY Soul vehicles receives this audio software update it can potentially exhibit a condition in which the audio unit will continuously display "Loading SIRIUS". This update will prevent the audio unit from continuously displaying "Loading SIRIUS". All Soul vehicles in the date range provided above should be re-flashed before delivery to the customer.

DO NOT PERFORM THIS SERVICE ACTION IF

^ The audio unit software version is V1.01.USA or a later version. To check for software version, turn ignition switch to ON position, turn audio power OFF, then press presets 1 & 6 (press preset 1 slightly before preset 6) hold both for more than 1 second then screen will display software version.

^ The audio unit continuously displays "Loading SIRIUS" when it is turned on. Audio units with this condition must be replaced.

Notice:
After a Soul audio unit replacement, confirm that the replaced audio unit contains software version V1.01.USA or a later version.

To perform this update you will need a USB memory device with at least 5MB of storage capacity formatted with FAT or FAT32 file structure. USB memory devices formatted with other file structures may not work with this procedure. Use the following software download procedure to transfer the files to the USB memory device (flash drive).



Notice
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service > Warranty Coverage > Warranty Coverage Inquiry > Campaign Information). Not Completed Recall/Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs > Not Completed Recall > Recall VIN > Select Report).

The issue number is SA009.

2010MY Soul with a production date from 01/08/2009 to 04/30/2009 that have audio software version V1.00.USA.

- Service Procedure

Software Download Procedure:

Otherwise, log on to KGIS/KiaTechInfo.com and select "Downloads" from the left navigation.

Select "Downloads for Sirius Update".

Click the "Sirius Update Download" link.





2. Click "Run".





3. Click "Run".





4. Click "OK".





5. Click "Next".





6. Insert flash drive into the computer's USB port. Wait a few seconds until your computer recognizes the new drive. Click "Next".





7. Click "Browse" button to navigate to your flash drive location.





8. Click "My Computer" to locate removable flash drive.

It may be referenced as "Removable Disk".

Click on the appropriate drive letter and click the "OK" button.





9. Verify that the correct letter drive is selected in the Destination Folder field. Click "Next" to continue.





10. Click "Next" to continue.





11. Wait while the files are copied to your flash drive.





12. Click "Finish" button to close window and return to your desktop.

Sirius update is transferred to your flash drive.

Update Procedure:

Notice
DO NOT TURN IGNITION KEY OFF WHILE UPDATING. An error will occur in the audio unit CPU that will require replacement of the audio unit.

1. Turn ignition key OFF

2. Turn ignition key ON





3. Insert USB memory device into USB slot.





4. After inserting USB memory device, wait until the unit starts to play MP3 file titled "Sirius Update", adjust volume as necessary to hear music.





5. When music starts to play, press the circular knob (Power Button) on the lower left hand corner to power OFF the unit.





6. Press and hold down both Preset 1 and Preset 5 (press Preset 1 slightly before Preset 5 )

Hold both presets down for at least 5 seconds





7. Press Preset 1 button 4 times.





8. On the screen, "(F)" will be displayed, this indicates upgrade mode. If "(F)" is not displayed, then return to step 1 and restart the update process.





9. Press Preset 1 button and the screen below will be displayed. After this display appears, press Preset 4 button to start Micom software update.





10. Upgrading process is Erasing --> Writing --> verify.

When upgrade is complete, unit will automatically power OFF.





11. In case of error during software update, the screen above will display for 10 seconds and the unit will automatically Reset. In this case, restart from Step 1.





12. After upgrade completes, turn Power Off , then press presets 1 & 6 (press preset 1 slightly before preset 6) hold both for more than 1 second then screen will display software version.
