Campaign SA041 - Thermostat Inspection/Replacement

SERVICE ACTION: SOUL (AM) DTC P0128 AND THERMOSTAT INSPECTION AND/OR REPLACEMENT (SA041)

This bulletin provides information relating to some SOUL (AM) vehicles with 2.0L engines built between January 14, 2010 ~ February 27, 2010 which may exhibit the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) illumination with DTC P0128 stored in memory. During this time period manufacturing equipment may have affected the performance of the thermostat. An inspection and/or replacement of the thermostat will be necessary. First the lot number is checked on the thermostat and if identified as defective replacement will be necessary.

To improve customer satisfaction, Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2010 Soul (AM) vehicles.





NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service>Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry>Campaign Information). Not Completed Recall/Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs>Not Completed Recall Recall VIN>Select Report).

The issue number is SA041.

Service Procedure

1. Disconnect battery, drain coolant to below approximate level of thermostat housing.





a) Remove two (2) nuts from the thermostat housing.

b) Do not remove the thermostat from the engine until the lot number has been checked.

c) Checking the lot number on thermostat: If the Lot number on the thermostat is within the affected range specified below, replace thermostat and gasket.





d) Reassemble as required after lot number checking, tighten nuts to 11-14 ft lbs and fill removed coolant to the proper level.

e) Reconnect the battery cable, start the engine and top off fluid level.
