SERVICE ACTION: 2009MY RONDO (UN) FRONT STRUT UPPER NUT RETIGHTENING (SA028)

This bulletin provides information relating to some 2009MY Rondo (UN) vehicles built between April 9, 2009 - July 16, 2009. While driving on an uneven road, some vehicles may experience abnormal noise originating from the upper area of the front strut. Use a torque wrench and the 6" torque adapter tool to retighten the front strut upper nuts (large, self-locking) on both sides to specified torque specification.





NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval. Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service>Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry>Campaign Information). The issue number is SA028.

Repair Procedure:





1. Open the hood and remove the front strut upper cover as shown in the photo.





2. Photo shows upper strut cover removed and location of the front strut upper nut that will need to be tightened to the specified torque specification.





3. Attach the 6" torque adapter tool to the torque wrench, and set the torque wrench to specified torque setting.

NOTICE
To ensure that the indicated torque is delivered at the fastener, Torque wrench MUST be placed at a 90 degree angle with the adapter.

NOTICE
Torque specification: 65 ft. lbs. (88 N.m).





4. Retighten the front strut upper nut to the specified torque specification as shown in the photos.

NOTICE
To ensure that the indicated torque is delivered at the fastener, Torque wrench MUST be placed at a 90 degree angle with the adapter.





5. Reinstall the front strut upper cover. Repeat the tightening procedure for the opposite side.
