- Description

Some Rio (JB) vehicles equipped with the Alpha engine (1.6L) may illuminate a MIL related to knock sensor codes P0326 (Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance) and/or P0327 (Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input). In order to repair this concern, a knock sensor replacement is necessary. Vehicles affected are 2009MY Rio (JB) with the 1.6L Alpha engine with production dates ranging from 3/03/09 to 4/30/09. All units in dealer stock require replacement, whereas sold units will require DTC
verification prior to replacement. Refer to labor operations codes on page 3 for warranty claim information.

Dealer stock units: Knock sensor replacement.

Retailed Units with DTC P0326 and/or P0327: Knock sensor replacement

Retailed Units without the DTCs listed below: No knock sensor replacement

DTC descriptions:

P0326: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance

P0327: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input

Inspection Procedure:

1. For dealer stock units: Replace the knock sensor.

2. For retailed units: Inspect using a GDS if DTC P0326 and/or P0327 are present in the ECU (Engine Control Unit).

3. If either or both DTCs exist, replace the knock sensor.

4. If neither DTC is present, knock sensor replacement is not necessary and no further action is required.

Replacement Procedure:





1. With the vehicle on the ground, disconnect the knock sensor wiring connector (A).

2. Lift the vehicle up off the ground.

3. Wait until engine cools.

4. Using a 12MM swivel socket, fitted with a suitably long extension to reach the knock sensor from the exhaust side, loosen the knock sensor mounting bolt (B) and remove the knock sensor assembly.

5. Initially install the knock sensor bolt by hand (lower the vehicle as necessary). Next, tighten and torque the bolt using torque wrench to the specifications provided below:

(Tightening torque is 16.7~26.5N.m 1.7~2.7kgf.m,
12.3~19.5 lb.ft).

6. Reconnect the knock sensor wiring connector.

7. Remove any DTC's with GDS.
