Description





This bulletin provides information related to 2009 MY Spectra, Rio and Optima models produced through 10/31/2008, not sold to customers and still in Dealer stock. These 09 MY Spectra (LD), Rio (JB) and Optima (MG) vehicles may experience a rattling noise from the gas cap. Unless addressed, this may lead to some customer complaints. Kia is requesting replacement prior to sale or delivery to customer to avoid any future complaints.

*NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service>Warranty Coverage>Warranty Coverage Inquiry>Campaign Information). Not Completed Recall/Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs>Not Completed Recall Recall VIN>Select Report).

The issue number is SA006.

PARTS INFORMATION:

*NOTICE
There are two different part numbers for the fuel cap assembly related to tether length. Please ensure the correct length is used. Failure to do so may interfere with tightening of the cap and may also be subject to warranty chargeback.

*NOTICE
DO NOT order parts for this TSB. Parts will automatically be shipped to each dealer to support 100% of the affected vehicles in dealer inventory. The first shipment will be made from your facing PDC before 11/19/2008. No additional orders for these part numbers will be processed. Service Procedure





1. Open the fuel filler door to gain access to the fuel cap.

2. Remove the fuel cap tether hook from the fuel filler lid and replace the fuel cap as required.

*NOTICE
Be careful not to scratch the paint when disconnecting the tether from the fuel filler door.
