DTC 21
Component Location
General Description
Power window software provides a thermal protection algorithm in order to prevent the motor from overheating under the specified conditions. After power on reset, the software thermal counter takes an initial value. In case of motor running, software increases the thermal counter by using the motor heating characteristic, otherwise the thermal counter decrease by using the motor cooling characteristic.
There are 2 thermal protection limits. If the software thermal counter passes the first limit and actual movement is finished, motor movement is disabled until software thermal counter decreases to the release limit temperature value. If the software thermal counter passes the second limit (while motor running) movement will stop at once until release temperature value is reached (reversing will not be interrupted by software thermal protection).
Voltage supply = 13.5V
Load = 3 N.m
Temperature = 23°C ± 5°C
Motor is able to operate at least 10 cycles without a break under above conditions and after thermal protection is activated, motor can operate within 50 seconds.
Test starts with SW-thermal counter at the initial value. Cycle: 3.8 CW -> 200 ms stall -> 1 sec. rest -> 3.8 CCW -> 200 ms stall -> 1 sec. rest
CAUTION:
2nd heating limit > 1st heating limit.
DTC Description
The safety power window ECU sets DTC DRV MOTOR THERMAL PROTECTION ERROR if the ECU detects thermal overload information. (The state of operation : prohibit window movement for 50 seconds)
