DOOR TRIM FABRIC COVER REATTACHMENT (SA033)

This bulletin provides information relating to some OPTIMA [MG] vehicles built between August 18, 2008 ~ October 26, 2009. In affected vehicles, the door trim fabric cover may come partially unattached from the door trim as shown in the photos below, due to insufficient adhesion/retention. The repair consists of applying 3M Scotch-Weld Hi-Strength Cylinder Spray Adhesive 90 or equivalent to the detached section of the door trim fabric cover.

To improve customer satisfaction, Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected Optima (MG) vehicles in dealer stock.

For vehicles not in affected dealer stock, but with a customer complaint, perform the following repair instructions outlined in this bulletin and submit a warranty claim per "customer complaint" information below.





NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.

Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service>Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry>Campaign Information). Not Completed Recall/Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs>Not Completed Recall Recall VIN>Select Report).

The issue number is SA033.

Service Procedure





1. Inspection: Rub the door trim fabric cover with your palm (as shown in photo) to check if door trim fabric cover comes loose. Do this on all door trim covers. Using the procedure listed below, reinstall any loose sections of the door trim fabric cover.

CAUTION
DO NOT use a tool or other sharp-edged object to remove the fabric cover from the door trim by force.





2. Locate and raise the detached section of fabric cover.





3. Carefully apply the adhesive on the door trim behind the detached part of the fabric cover as shown in the photo.

NOTICE
Sample brush shown in photo. Various suitable tools are available to aid in the application of the adhesive in tight corners and crevices. use as appropriate.

CAUTION
Cloves are recommended when applying adhesive to the door trim panel. Always follow manufacture's safety recommendations listed on the product container.

CAUTION
Take care not to get adhesive on any of the exposed areas of the panels.





4. Carefully re-attach and stretch the fabric cover using a plastic putty knife or equivalent tool to squeeze the detached fabric cover into the crevice of the door trim as shown in the photo.





5. Be careful not to scratch, damage, or contaminate the door trim panel while performing the repair.
