DTC 01
1Component Location:
General Description
The purpose of this function is to indicate brake lamp(s) failure.
In IGN1 "ON" state, When brake pedal is depressed and a brake lamp failure is detected (Stop lamp failed = ON), Indicator lamp output is turned ON.
The brake lamp failure is confirmed after 200 ms. The present failure is cleared by fault manager, when the failure condition no longer exists.
DTC Description
When the brake pedal is depressed, The BCM checks the operation current of brake lamp and set this code if the current is out of permissible range.

Component Inspection
Check Brake Lamps
1. Remove the service cover from the trunk room.
2. Check brake lamps.
3. Are brake lamps normal?
YES - Go to "W/Harness Inspection" procedure.
NO - Replace brake lamp and Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Terminal and Connector Inspection
1. Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems and mechanical or chemical damage.
2. Check the following conditions
1. Check for damaged harness and terminals: contact resistance, oxidation, bent or broken terminals.
2. Check for poor connection between ECM and component: backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks and poor terminal to wire connection
NOTE: Using a suitable male pin to ensure that contact in sockets is good. The pin should remain in position when pulled gently.
3. Has a problem been found?
YES - Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure
NO - Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure
Signal Circuit Inspection
1. Ignition "OFF"
2. Disconnect BCM connector and rear combination lamp.
3. Measure resistance between terminal "1" of the rear combination lamp harness connector and BCM harness connector.
Specification : Approx. 1 ohm below.
4. Is measured resistance within specifications?
YES - Go to "BCM Inspection" procedure.
NO - Check for an open in signal harness. Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair"
BCM Inspection
1. Check input signal
1. Ignition "ON" and engine "OFF"
2. Connect scantool and select INPUT/OUTPUT MONITORING.
3. Monitor "BRAKE SWITCH" parameter on the scantool.
Specification : "ON" when brake pedal is depressed.
4. Is parameter displayed within specifications?
YES - Go to "Check output signal" as below
NO - Check for a brake switch and harness. Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair"
2. Check output signal
5. Ignition "ON" and engine "OFF"
6. Connect scantool and select ACTUATION test mode.
7. Perform "BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION INDICATOR"
Specification : 1 sec "ON" and 1 sec "OFF" 5 times.
8. Is brake lamp malfunction indicator displayed according to specification?
YES - Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
NO - Substitute with a known-good BCM and check proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace BCM and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure
Verification of Vehicle Repair
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1. Ignition "ON" & Engine "OFF"
2. Connect scantool and clear DTC.
3. Are any DTCs present?
YES - Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.
NO - System is performing to specification at this time.
