AMANTI (GH) FRONT DOOR TRIM ARMREST REPLACEMENT
This bulletin provides information relating to some Amanti (GH) vehicles built from 2004 to end of 2009MY that may exhibit peeling or wrinkles on the leather cover of the front door trim armrest. A replacement armrest is now available as a service part. To correct the condition, replace only the affected armrest following the instructions in this bulletin.
NOTICE
After careful inspection, only replace the affected front door trim armrest(s).
Repair Procedure: Removing Door Trim Panel and Armrest Assembly
1. Open the front door to access the door trim panel.
2. Remove left and right-side retaining clips (indicated by arrows); then carefully remove the door frame inner cover.
CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the door frame inner cover during removal.
3. Remove the door inner handle screw cover and retaining screw; then slide cover over the handle.
4. Carefully press the release tab (arrow) and lift to remove the power window switch assembly.
5. Remove the following door trim retaining screws as shown in photo.
Remove # 1 retaining screw under power window switch assembly.
Remove armrest retaining screw cover; then remove # 2 retaining screw as indicated in the photo.
6. Carefully remove the door trim assembly.
NOTICE
Put the door trim panel on a flat soft surface to prevent damage.
7. Carefully lift up the bottom section of the pad on the back-side of the door trim panel to gain access to armrest retaining screws.
8. Remove the front door safety window unit as indicated by the arrow.
9. Use a sharp chisel and hammer to cut off the hot melt butt joints as indicated in the the photos.
Location of the (4) hot melt butt joints on passenger door (A).
Location of the (3) hot melt butt joints on driver's door (B).
CAUTION
Do not use excessive force when removing the hot melt butt joints. Be careful not to damage the door trim panel.
10. Remove armrest retaining screws as indicated in photo.
11. Remove the armrest assembly from the front door trim panel.
Installing New Front Armrest Assembly and Reinstalling Door Trim Panel
1. Install the new armrest assembly and secure with original retaining screws.
2. If necessary, cut off the projections from the new armrest assembly flush with or just below the door trim panel; then install additional retaining screws.
NOTICE
Some new armrest assemblies may already have the plastic projections removed.
NOTICE
New screws are included with the new armrest assembly to replace the cut-off hot metal butt joints.
3. Reinstall front door safety window unit as indicated by the arrow. Some new armrest assemblies may already have the plastic projections removed.
4. Install door trim assembly in the reverse order of removal.
Confirm that all switches function properly after reassembly.
