Description

This bulletin provides a repair procedure for replacing the interior fuse box cover on 2006 Rio/Rio5 vehicles built from 6/6/05 through 4/26/06.

Some 2006 Rio/Rio5 vehicles were equipped with interior fuse box covers that do not allow for access to the On-Board Diagnosis (OBD-II) connector without removal of the fuse box cover. Kia has designed a new fuse box cover that allows easier access.

Service Procedure

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:





1. Locate the fuse box cover to the left of the steering wheel on the lower section of the instrument panel.

NOTICE
There is no charge to the vehicle owner for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected 2006 Rio until it has been repaired, pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.





2. Release and open the fuse box cover.

^ If the cover has no storage compartment and the OBD-II connector is visible, as shown, NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED.

^ If the cover has a storage box and the OBD-II connector is not visible, continue to the REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE.

Note:
Campaign completion must be verified on the Warranty Coverage Validation Inquiry screen, prior to performing repairs (Kia Standard System [KSS] Main Menu-Option 3).

REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE:





1. Open the fuse box cover, grab the top edge and pull up to release the two lower hinge points.





2. Insert new fuse box cover hinge clips onto instrument panel hinge pins and push inward until the cover snaps into place. Close fuse box cover.





3. Properly dispose of old fuse box cover.

4. Install SCO60 Campaign Completion Label in the engine compartment at the rear of the driver's side strut tower, as shown.

FOR CALIFORNIA, MASSACHUSETTS, VERMONT, AND MAINE DEALERS:
VEHICLE EMISSION RECALL - PROOF OF CORRECTION CARD

A Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction card must be filled out for all vehicles registered in California, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine. California, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine residents who own an affected vehicle will be required to possess a Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction card as evidence of voluntary service campaign completion when they apply for vehicle registration renewal.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE CARD:

Each customer whose vehicle is registered in California, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine must be given a completed Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction card after the voluntary service campaign has been completed.

Note:
This card MUST be completed by the Dealership's Service Manager using a permanent ink pen. A fine point pen is recommended. When filling in the information, copy the information directly from the vehicle NOT the repair order.

ALL INFORMATION MUST BE PRINTED AND NEAT. DO NOT COMPLETE THE CARD UNLESS THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN WORK IS COMPLETED!
