The new Spectra LD has two new style air bag connectors with locking tabs that both lock the connector in place and lift the air bag or seatbelt pre-tensioner shorting bars. Each air bag and seatbelt pre-tensioner in all Kia vehicles have shorting bars that short the two igniter terminals together when the connector is removed. This is done for safety to ensure that no voltage or current can be applied across the terminals resulting in unwanted deployment. The two igniter shorting bars are lifted away from the terminals by the connector or the connector lock tab when the connector is locked in place.
