C1236 - EMS Indicates Invalid Engine Speed






General Description
CAN communication is applied just for FTCSs (Full Traction Control Systems) installed in the vehicle for sending requirement data, such as Torque reduction, the number of fuel cut cylinders, and TCS control requests, to the Engine ECM & TCM. The Engine ECM performs fuel cut functions according to requests from the ABS ECU and retards ignition timing by torque reduction requests. The TCM maintains current gear positions during TCS control time, by not increasing power which causes a kickdown shift.

DTC Description
The HECU checks the CAN communcation lines for normal TCS control, and sets this code if message EMS1 is set, which indicates a defective engine speed sensor.
