Antitheft System - Alarm Will Not Arm

SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 7 Issue 6, 2004

TITLE: Alarm Diagnosis

APPLIES TO: 04-05 Amanti

SERVICE TIP:

When diagnosing an - alarm that will not arm - concern on Amanti models (lights do not flash when locking with the RKE), the first step should be to use the Hi-Scan Pro. The BCM inputs that will keep the alarm from setting can all be viewed using the Hi-Scan Pro. To start, check the "Burglar Alarm" current data screen.

^ From the Amanti main menu, select "Body Control Module"

^ From the BCM menu select "Body Control Module" again

^ Select "Input/Output Monitoring"

^ Select "Burglar Alarm"

Check lines 3, 4, and 5 in the current data screen to see that all doors, hood and trunk show "Closed". If the hood is closed and the data shows open, make sure the rubber bumper on the underside of the hood that contacts the hood switch is in place. If all doors, hood, and trunk show closed, you will need to check the door lock actuator switch inputs. This data is in the Driver Power Window current data.

^ Press "Escape" three times to return to the BCM main menu.

^ Select "Driver Power Window"

^ Select "Input/Output Monitoring"

^ Select "Power Window Main"

Check lines 1 and 3, "Driver Knob Unlock" and "R/Driver Knob Unlock" should both show "Lock" with the doors locked. If not you will need to check the door lock actuator input to the power window main switch. Pin B17 (B14 for rear door) at the power window main switch should show 5 volts with the driver's door locked and 0 volts with the door unlocked. If the voltage reads low when doors are locked, disconnect the door lock actuator. If the voltage increases, replace the door lock actuator. If the voltage is still low (less than 3.5 volts), check the circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit checks OK, replace the power window main switch. If both show lock, check the passenger power window switch in the same manner, make sure both passenger doors show lock.
