Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
FUEL PRESSURE TEST1. Remove the rear seat cushion.
2. Open the service cover (A) under the rear seat cushion.
3. Release the internal pressure of the fuel lines and hoses as following:
a. Disconnect the fuel pump assembly harness connector (A).
b. Start the engine and wait until fuel in fuel line is exhausted. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch to OFF position.
c. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal from the battery.
d. Connect the fuel pump assembly harness connector (A).
NOTE: Be sure to reduce the fuel pressure before disconnecting the fuel feed line, otherwise fuel will spill out.
4. Disconnect the fuel feed line from the fuel delivery pipe.
CAUTION: Cover the hose connection with a shop towel to prevent splashing of fuel caused by residual pressure in the fuel line.
5. Install the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel line.
6. Connect the negative terminal (-) to the battery.
7. Apply battery voltage to the fuel pump terminal and activate the fuel pump. With fuel pressure applied, check that there is no fuel leakage from the fuel pressure gauge or connection part.
8. Start the engine and let it idle.
9. Measure the fuel pressure.
Standard Value: 350 kpa (3.5 kg/sq.cm, 49.8 psi)
10. If the result of the measurements made in steps (8) and (9) are not within the standard value, use the table below to determine the probable cause, and perform the necessary repairs.
11. Stop the engine and check for a change in the fuel pressure gauge reading, which should hold for approximately 5 minutes. If the gauge indication drops, observe the rate of drop. Determine and correct the causes according to the following table.
12. Release the internal pressure of the fuel lines and hoses as following:
a. Disconnect the fuel pump assembly harness connector (A).
b. Start the engine and wait until fuel in fuel line is exhausted. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch to OFF position.
c. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal from the battery.
d. Connect the fuel pump assembly harness connector (A).
NOTE: Be sure to reduce the fuel pressure before disconnecting the fuel feed line, otherwise fuel will spill out.
13. Disconnect the fuel pressure gage from the fuel line.
CAUTION: Cover the hose connection with a shop towel to prevent splashing of fuel caused by residual fuel pressure in the fuel line.
14. Replace the O-ring at the end of the hose.
15. Connect the fuel feed line to the fuel delivery pipe and check for fuel leakage.
