Emissions - PCV and Vent Air Hose
SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 6 Issue 2, 2003TITLE: PVC and Vent Air Hose Connections
APPLIES TO: Rio
SERVICE TIP:
KMA has received reports about Rio vehicles with MIL on and rough idle conditions, typically accompanied by multiple misfire and/or fuel trim related DTCs stored.
Investigation revealed that in a number of cases, the hoses for the vent air and PCV valve had accidentally been crossed at the valve cover fittings during a previous repair. This condition will allow full vacuum to be applied to the crankcase and cause sufficient unmetered air to enter the intake manifold so as to set one or more DTCs: engine management system will not be able to compensate.
Should you encounter the described condition, verify proper hose connections and correct as required. If further clarification is required, refer to the schematic.
