Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair

WHEEL CYLINDER





COMPONENT

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the dust boots and discard.
2. Remove the pistons and the return spring.
3. Remove the piston seals and discard.
4. Remove the bleeder screw and the ball seal.

CAUTION: Do not use petroleum based solvent, kerosene, or gasoline for cleaning wheel cylinder parts. Their use as a cleaning agent can leave residues which can damage the rubber seals.

5. Wash the parts in clean denatured alcohol and dry with compressed air.

ASSEMBLY
1. Install the seals on the pistons.
2. Lubricate the wheel cylinder bore and pistons with the specified brake fluid.
3. Install the return spring, pistons, and dust boots.
4. Install the ball seal and the bleeder screw.
