B1382 - Side Airbag Front-Passenger: Resistance Too High

Operation
A passenger side airbag (PSAB) module is located in the right side of the passenger's seat and it contains a folded cushion together with an inflator unit (as pictured above). The firing system for the side airbag consists of an SRSCM installed in the middle of the vehicle and two satellite sensors, one located on the left-hand side and one on the right. Only the SRSCM is capable of controlling the seat-belt pretensioner system and the release of the airbags. The satellite sensors act as intelligent acceleration sensors, and as a backup for the center airbag controller. Both satellites continuously report current left and right-hand vehicle side system status to the SRSCM.

Self-diagnosis System
A self-diagnosis circuit is built into the SRS control module, When the ignition switch is turned ON, the SRSCM indicator light turns on and turns off, after about six seconds, if the system is operating normally. If the light does not come If the light does not turn on or does not turn back off after six second, or if it lights while driving, an abnormality in the system is indicated. The system must be inspected and repaired as soon as possible. For bettery serviceability, the cause of the malfunction is stored in memory. The data link circuit passes malfunction information from memory to the data link connector (DLC). This information can then be read with the scantool connected to the DLC (16P).

DTC Description
When open or increased resistance in the passenger's side airbag squib occurs. When the SRS warning light remains lit and a DTC code occurs, this means an open circuit or increased resistance between the control module and airbag harness has occurred.
