Lights - Dash and Center Console Illumination Light Inop
SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 7 Issue 1, 2004TITLE: Dash and Center Console Illumination Light Inop
APPLIES TO: Amanti
SERVICE TIP:
KMA's TechLine has been receiving calls from technicians regarding the non-operation of the dash lights and center console illumination lights. The cause for this problem is an incorrectly installed (rotated 180 degrees) shunt in the interior fuse block. (see photos)
The shunt serves as a "switch" for Daytime Running Light (DRL) circuitry in some non-U.S. Amanti models and the receptacle base is marked with "OFF" and "ON" (Note: DRL is NOT available in U.S. models). In U.S. models, installing the shunt in the wrong position causes the dash and center console illumination to become inoperative.
Since the shunt can be installed in either direction, and since there may be no immediate concern noticed, incorrect installation can easily be overlooked. During PDI or whenever there is a customer concern with the dash and center console illumination, check to make sure the shunt is properly installed and verify that dash and center console illumination work as designed. When properly installed in U.S. models, the lock tab/lip on the shunt should be pointing down as shown in first photo below.
