This bulletin provides a repair procedure for replacing the 2003 Rio 4-door rear seat belt assemblies. The 2003 Rio 4 door model rear seat belt automatic locking retractor mode range has been modified for better performance with child seats

2003MY Rio 4-door vehicles built from 6/22/02 through 5/24/03.

- Service Procedure

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:





1. Open the hood and check for SC064 Campaign Completion Label in the engine compartment at the rear of the driver's side strut tower, as shown.

^ If label exists, NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED.

^ If label DOES NOT EXIST, continue to Repair Procedure.

Note:
Campaign completion must be verified on the Warranty Coverage Validation Inquiry screen, prior to performing repairs (Kia Standard System [KSS] Main Menu-Option 3).

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Remove the rear seat cushion and seat back.

2. Remove the three (3) upper child seat anchors from the package shelf.





3. Remove the two (2) Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL) nuts from below the package shelf. Unscrew the two (2) studs from the CHMSL body, if equipped.





4. Remove the four (4) package shelf clips from the front edge.

5. Remove the six (6) gray package shelf clips from the underside by pushing up from the bottom.

6. Remove the right and left C-Pillar trim.





7. Remove the right and left rear seat belt assemblies.

8. Cut the right and left seat belt webbing so that the seat belts can't be reused and dispose of them properly.





9. Install the new right and left rear seat belts making sure to insert the alignment tabs in the holes as shown. Torque the upper and lower anchor bolts to 29-40 lb-ft.

*NOTICE:
Install the Lower Seat Belt Anchor With the Buckle Tongue Facing Forward, Without Twist in the Webbing.





10. Install the C-Pillar trim, package shelf, CHMSL and rear seat in the reverse order of removal.

11. Re-install three (3) upper Child Seat Anchors Torque anchor bolts to 13-20 lb-ft.





12. Install SC064 Campaign Completion Label in the engine compartment at the rear of the driver's side strut tower, as shown.
