Removal and Installation

Removal
1. Loosen wheel lug nuts.
2. Raise front of vehicle and support it with safety stands.
3. Remove wheels and tires.
4. Pull out cotter pins, and remove nuts.





5. Separate tie rod from knuckle arm with SST (0K130 283 021).

Notice: Replace nuts temporarily so that screw threads do not become damaged.

6. Remove bracket fixed to pipes and gear box after loosening two bracket bolts and nuts.
7. Disconnect high-pressure line and return line.

Notice: Use a container or rags to catch power steering fluid when disconnecting high pressure line and/or return line.

8. Remove two universal joint pinch bolts and intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
9. Remove four steering column nuts from vehicle and then remove sealing cover.
10. Loosen two steering rack nuts.
11. Remove change control rod and extension bar from transaxle.





12. Remove exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
13. Remove the cross member.





14. Remove No. 1 engine mounting to Chassis bits.





15. Support (and secure if possible) subframe with a transaxle jack or suitable floor jack.





16. Remove bolts and nuts from the both end of subframe and rear lower arm bushing.





17. Remove steering rack from right side of vehicle slowly lowering subframe. If necessary, replace rack and linkage entirely, do not disassemble.

Replacement
1. Install steering rack into right side of vehicle.





2. Tighten four steering rack nuts.
Tightening torque: 27 - 38 ft. lbs. (37 - 52 Nm, 3.8 - 5.3 kg-m)





3. Tighten bolts and nuts to the both end of subframe and rear lower arm bushing
Tightening torque: 69 - 86 ft. lbs. (93 - 117 Nm, 9.5 - 11.9 kg-m)
4. Remove a transaxle jack or suitable floor jack from subframe.





5. Tighten No.1 engine mounting bolts.
Tightening torque: 49.2 - 69 ft. lbs. (67 - 93.2 Nm, 6.8 - 9.5 kg-m)
6. Install engine mounting member.
Tightening torque: 48 - 65 ft. lbs. (64 - 89 Nm, 6.5 - 9.1 kg-m)
7. Install exhaust pipe and Catalytic converter.
Tightening torque: 27.4 - 38.3 ft. lbs. (37.2 - 51.9 Nm, 3.8 - 5.3 kg-m)
8. Tighten intermediate shaft bolt.
Tightening torque: 13 - 20 ft. lbs. (18 - 26 Nm, 1.8 - 2.7 kg-m)
9. Install sealing covers and then tighten four steering column nuts in vehicle.





10. Tighten two universal joint pinch bolts.
Tightening torque: 13 - 20 ft. lbs. (18 - 26 Nm, 1.8 - 2.7 kg-m)
11. Connect high-pressure line and return line fittings.
12. Install bracket to pipes and gear box and tighten two bracket bolts and nuts.
13. Install tie rod into knuckle arm.
14. Tighten nuts and install cotter pins.
Tightening torque: 22 - 33 ft. lbs. (29 - 44 Nm, 3 - 4.5 kg-m)
15. Install extension bar on transaxle.
Tightening torque: 28 - 38 ft. lbs. (38 - 51 Nm, 3.8 - 5.3 kg-m)
16. Install change control rod on transaxle.
Tightening torque: 12 - 16 ft. lbs. (16 - 22 Nm, 1.6 - 2.3 kg-m)
17. Install wheels and tires.
18. Lower vehicle.
