Shifter A/T: Service and Repair

Selector lever
Removal





1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove ash tray, then remove two screws.
3. Disconnect cigarette lighter connector and remove center panel.
4. Remove storage box.





5. Remove two console bolts and four screws and remove console.
6. Shift selector lever to P range.
7. Remove two selector cable mounting bolts.
8. Remove selector cable nut.





9. Loosen shift lock cable nut, then remove shift lock cable.





10. Disconnect two connectors.





11. Remove four selector base plate nuts and remove selector lever assembly.

Replacement





1. Install selector lever and tighten four selector lever base plate nuts.
Tightening torque: 11.5 - 16.6 ft. lbs. (15.7 - 22.6 Nm, 1.6 - 2.3 kg.m)
2. Connect two connectors.
3. Remove shift lock cable and tighten shift lock cable nut.
Tightening torque: 7.2 - 10.8 ft. lbs. (9.8 - 14.7 Nm, 1.0 - 11.5 kg.m)
4. Shift selector lever to P range.
5. Install selector cable.
6. Tighten selector cable nut.
Tightening torque: 69.4 - 95.9 inch lbs. (7.8 - 10.8 Nm, 80 - 110 kg.cm)





7. Tighten two selector cable mounting bouts.
Tightening torque: 69.4 - 95.9 inch lbs. (7.8 - 10.8 Nm, 80 - 110 kg.cm)
8. Tighten two console bolts and four screws.
9. Install storage box.
10. Install center panel, then connect cigarette lighter connector.
11. Tighten two screws and install ash tray.
12. Connect negative battery cable.
13. Verify correct operation of selector lever.
