Optima Automatic Transaxle 2-3 Shift Flare

This bulletin provides information related to change in 2002MY Optima automatic transaxle TCM logic to improve cold shift feel. Some 2002MY Optima models built before 2/19/02 production may exhibit shift flare or hunting at the 2-3 shift when transmission is cold. To reduce incidence of transaxle cold shift feel complaints, the TCM logic was revised from 2/19/02 production.

For 2002MY Optima complaint vehicles produced before 2/19/02, reprogramming software has been made available for the Hi-Scan Pro for use as a field fix.

Refer to the inspection and reprogramming procedures outlined in the following pages.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:

1. Check the production date on the FMVSS door label to determine if the vehicle falls within the production range.

2. Use the Hi-Scan Pro to identify the TCM calibration in the vehicle by entering "OPTIMA", "2002MY", "AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE", "AUTOTRANS 2700 or AUTOTRANS 2400 DOHC", "ECU ROM ID".

^ If the calibration identification is "2214F3" for V-6 or "8107F4" for 4 cylinder, then the vehicle has the latest calibration - DO NOT REPROGRAM.
