Compressor Clutch Does Not Operate
Compressor does not operateStep 1: Check fuse and relay
1. Check fuses.
2. If a fuse is open, check for a short circuit in wiring harness before replacing fuse.
3. If fuse is OK, proceed to inspection.
Inspection
A/C relay
1. Disconnect A/C relay.
2. Check for continuity between following terminals of the relay.
3. If not as specified, replace the relay.
4. If correct, go to next step.
5. Apply 12 V to the terminal 85 and ground the terminal 86.
6. Check for continuity between terminals 87 and 30.
7. If not as specified, replace the relay.
8. If correct, go to step 2.
Step 2: Measure voltage at compressor connector
1. Run engine at idle.
2. Turn A/C and blower switches ON.
3. Measure voltage at following terminal wire of compressor connector.
Step 3: Measure voltage at magnetic clutch
1. Disconnect magnetic clutch connector.
2. Check for continuity between magnetic clutch and a body ground.
Step 4: Measure voltage at A/C switch
1. Turn ignition switch and A/C switch ON.
2. Measure voltage at following terminal wires of A/C switch connector G-01.
Step 5: Check ground at A/C switch
1. Turn A/C and Blower switches ON.
2. Use ohmmeter to check continuity ground and indicated terminal of A/C switch G-01.
Step 6: Measure voltage at A/C thermocon
1. Verify that the blower and A/C switches in ON position.
2. Measure voltage at terminal wires of A/C thermocon connector G-04.
Inspection
A/C thermocon
1. Disconnect A/C thermocon connector G-04.
2. Apply 12 V to the terminal 1 (W) and ground terminal 4 (Y/G).
3. Connect a test light between the terminal 3 (BRIG) and 4 (Y/G) of A/C thermocon connector G-04.
4. If not as specified, replace the A/C thermocon.
5. If correct, go to step 7.
Step 7: Measure voltage at A/C dual pressure switch
1. Verify that the blower and A/C switch in ON position.
2. Measure voltage at following terminal wires of A/C dual pressure switch connector.
Step 8: Measure refrigerant pressure
1. Connect A/C manifold gauge set.
2. Operate engine at 2,000 rpm and set air conditioner to maximum cooling.
3. Measure high-pressure side refrigerant pressure.
Step 9: Measure voltage at engine control module
1. Verify that ignition, A/C, and blower switches in ON position.
2. Measure voltage at following terminal of engine control module connector.
Step 10 : Check ground at engine control module
1. Verify that ignition, A/C, and blower switches in ON position.
2. Use ohmmeter to check continuity ground and indicated terminal of engine control module.
