SUBJECT
Automatic Transaxle Diagnosis For Sephia/Spectra/Rio
This bulletin provides information related to diagnosing and correcting automatic transaxle concerns on all Rio and 1998 through 2001 MY Sephia/Spectra vehicles built before 10/1/00.
Incorrect diagnosis of automatic transaxles and their control systems may lead to repeat repairs and/or cause unnecessary replacement of transaxle assemblies.
Follow the procedures outlined in this bulletin for any of the following:
^ MIL on (and HOLD light blinking) and DTCs stored in TCM or ECM
^ A/T related drivability concerns, incorrect shift behavior or slip
^ No Forward or Reverse gear
To correct these concerns, perform the rework described below as required.
PRELIMINARY:
Familiarize yourself with the procedures outlined in TSB, Transmission/Driveline 003 (Revised), dated March 2002. Obtain an A/T Diagnosis Worksheet.
Check for any stored (or pending) DTCs, record description and Freeze Frame Data. If circuit related DTCs (i.e., P0753, P0758, P0763) are stored, repair those before attempting to correct DTCs that indicate malfunctions (i.e., P0732, P0733, P0740).
Check the vehicle's repair history to determine if this is a repeat repair. If so, note what previous repairs were done and whether they were effective. Use repair history to aid in diagnosis and repair approach.
