Without Scan Tool
1. ABS diagnosis connector is located under side of master vacuum in engine compartment.
2. Key switch IG ON.
3. Connect the ABS diagnosis terminal (H) to the ground more than a second and continuously connect the terminals to retrieve all the fault codes.
4. The following procedure is how to check the digital code of "12" as an example.
- When the jumper wire is grounded ABS warning lamp is off. It indicates self-diagnosis function is started to operate.
- ABS warning lamp is off for 3.2 seconds and then it is ON & OFF rapidly (0.4 second) one time. It indicates first digit of code is "1".
- 1.2 seconds after first digit of code flashes, the ABS warning lamp is ON & OFF two times. It indicates second digit of code is "2".
- Above procedure is repeated three times. And then next code is followed by the same pattern.
- ^The code can be checked from the malfunction code list.
- ^Fault code "12" is just a start code which flashes out though there is no fault.
5. To clear diagnostic codes using brake pedal, it is the best to apply the brake pedal more than 6 times and to keep applying the brake pedal as fast as possible for more than 3 seconds.
Diagnostic codes can be cleared using the brake pedal when the ABS control module is in self-diagnosis function. If the brake pedal is depressed six times in three seconds while in code flash out mode, codes are cleared.
NOTICE:
a) Code flashout is not possible with a shorted ABS indicator light or diagnostic wire shorted high.
b) Clearing codes is not possible with an inoperative brake switch (code 18 exists).
