SUBJECT:
A-Pillar Trim Clips

This bulletin provides information related to a change to the Rio A-pillar trim clips. The material, design and size have been changed effective 7/26/00.

The purpose of the change is to provide a more secure attachment of the trim to the A-pillar.

The new A-pillar trim clips should be used as a field fix for vehicles produced prior to 7/26/00 production.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Open vehicle door: Pull the opening weatherstrip away from the A-pillar.

2. Remove A-pillar trim: Grasp the top edges and pull away from the pillar. Tilt the trim piece back to free the tabs at the base of the trim from slots in the dash panel.

3. Remove existing plastic clips (2) from the trim panel. Use needle nose pliers to firmly grip the clips when removing.

4. Install new plastic clips to A-pillar trim.

5. Install A-pillar trim: Insert tabs at the base of the trim piece into the slots at the top-edge of the dash panel. Carefully align trim clips to the holes in the A-pillar, then snap into position.

6. Reinstall the opening weatherstrip to the A-pillar: Make sure the inside edge of the weatherstrip overlaps the outside edge of the A-pillar trim.

7. Repeat procedure on other side of the vehicle.

AFFECTED PRODUCTION RANGE:
All Rio vehicles produced prior to 7/26/00.
