Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation
CHECK ENGINE (MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT) WARNING
"CHECK ENGINE" lamp in instrument cluster warning center illuminates during engine starting. It may stay on a short time after engine starts. If warning illuminates while driving, ECM has detected a fault in the engine management system.
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL)
An On Board Diagnostic lamp comes on to notify the driver that there is any problem on the vehicle.
However MIL will go off automatically after 3 subsequent sequential driving cycles not redetected same malfunction.
Immediately after the ignition switch turns on, the malfunction indicator light is lit for 5 seconds to indicate that the malfunction indicator light operates normally.

- Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT sensor)
- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT sensor)
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

- Downstream Oxygen Sensor Heater
- Downstream Oxygen Sensor
- Upstream Oxygen Sensor Heater
- Injector
- Misfire
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP sensor)
- Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP sensor)
- Evaporative Emission Control System
- Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Idle Speed Control ECM
- Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor (Except 2.5L V6 engine)
- EGR System (Except 2.5L V6 engine)
