Front Door Glass Run
This bulletin provides information related to a change in Optima door glass runs to reduce wind noise.
Some Optimas built before 7/25/01 have exhibited excessive wind noise from the front door glass run area. To correct this condition, the door glass runs were improved from 7/25/01 production. The new front door glass runs may be used as a field fix for in-use complaint vehicles built prior to 7/25/01.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Lower window and remove tweeter speaker by grasping at top and bottom and pulling straight away from door.
2. Remove screw cover and screw from inside release handle cover, remove cover.
3. Remove screw from pull handle and remove power window switch, disconnect window and mirror switches.
4. Disconnect remote trunk switch connector located under power window switch.
5. Remove two screws at the front edge, two screws at bottom edge and two screws at rear edge of door panel.
6. Remove door panel.
7. Remove four screws from speaker and remove speaker.
8. Pull glass run down and out of top of window frame.
9. Remove glass run at front and rear by pulling up out of window frame.
10. Lubricate outside of new glass run with soap and water or rubber lubricant.
11. Squeeze lower rear section of glass run and feed down rear window frame until top corner lines up, repeat at front frame making sure to install lip at inner and outer sides of frame.
Note: Bottom of glass run may be accessed through speaker hole to help feed glass run to bottom of frame.
12. Install top of glass run by aligning lip at outer edge first then pushing inner edge into frame. Run window up and down to check installation.
13. Re-install door panel and hardware in reverse order of removal.
