Keyless Entry - Programming RKE Transmitters
SOURCE: Kia Technician Times
TITLE: Programming RKE Transmitters
APPLIES TO: Optima
SERVICE TIP:
Optima SE models come equipped with one RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) key/transmitter. To add or replace a RKE key/transmitter follow these directions:
Pull center facia panel (no need to unplug connectors) and move to right hand side for access to the receiver. Make sure all doors, trunk and hood are closed and key is removed from ignition. Locate the switch on the receiver (see photo 2) and note the "off" and "set" positions. Programming is done in the "set" position, and needs to be completed within 10 seconds after moving the switch on the receiver to "set" position.
The receiver may be installed with connector facing down and switch toward the front which practically prevents access. If so, rotate receiver unit 180 degrees after removing trim panel near accelerator (see photo 3) and loosening 2 nuts that secure receiver to center stack panel.
If you are "adding" one new key/transmitter, you will need to reprogram both, within the 10 second time frame, as follows: simultaneously depress door Lock and Unlock buttons on the first key. Release both, then press either Lock or Unlock button once again. Immediately (i.e. within the 10 second time frame) repeat procedure for second key.
Move switch on receiver unit back to "off" position, and test functions on both key/transmitters. Replace center facia panel.
