Power Window Switch: Description and Operation
Power Window SwitchesWhen the ignition switch is in ON, battery voltage from the P/WIND RH and P/WIND LH fuses is applied to the Master Power Window Switch. Both leads of each motor are normally grounded. To raise or lower a window, one lead is connected to battery voltage by toggling the appropriate switch. Battery voltage from the Master Power Window Switch is applied to the motors in the other three doors after passing through the individual switches located at each door.
The individual switches located at each of the three other doors control their window motors in the same manner as the Master Power Window Switch.
To provide automatic lowering of the driver's window, an electronic circuit and bi-polar relay are employed. For these vehicles, the driver's window switch is unique in that it has a fourth position to provide the automatic lowering feature. This position signals the electronic circuit to hold the relay ON in the down direction.
