Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation

The Transaxle Control Module (TCM), provides smooth gear shifting by energizing the gear shift solenoid valves and the torque converter clutch solenoid valve at the appropriate times.

Correct control of these solenoids is based on interpretation of input signals from several sensors (see schematic).
