SUBJECT
Service Campaign: Battery Cable Inspection

This bulletin provides information related to a service campaign to inspect the positive battery cable on certain 1998-2000MY Sephia models. This service campaign is in response to an inquiry by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) involving possible interference between the positive battery cable and the automatic transmission dipstick which could result in battery cable damage and an electrical short. In cooperation with the NHTSA investigation and to determine if a battery cable damage problem does exist, owners of affected vehicles are being notified to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealer for inspection of the positive battery cable. As part of this inspection, a postage-paid return Inspection Sheet must be filled out and returned to KMA for each affected vehicle inspected (see sample Inspection Sheet).

Use the procedures in this bulletin to inspect affected vehicles and complete the Inspection Sheet.

IMPORTANT:

^ The Inspection Sheet must be completed and returned to KMA before warranty claim will be accepted.

^ Due to limited availability, parts will be on manual allocation. If a battery cable requires replacement, contact your DPSM.

* NOTICE
There is no charge to the customer for this inspection. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected 1998-2000 Sephia until it has been inspected, pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.
