Temperature Sensor (Gauge): Testing and Inspection




1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sender and ground the BRN/YEL wire.
3. If the coolant temperature gauge does not read hot, check/repair wiring and/or coolant temperature gauge.
4. If the coolant temperature gauge does read hot, go to next step.




5. Remove the engine coolant temperature sender.
6. Place the engine coolant temperature sender in water.
7. Heat the water gradually, and check the resistance of the sender with an ohmmeter.
8. If resistance is not as specified, replace the engine coolant temperature sender.

Resistance: 180 - 200 ohms at 122° F (50° C)
