Power Locks: Description and Operation

POWER DOOR LOCK SYSTEM
Power door lock system is comprised of door lock assembly, inside door handle, door lock cylinder, and door lock switch. This system is installed on all doors of vehicle. System is activated by driver's side door which has a manual door lock system and a door lock switch. Switch is connected to door lock relay which is located under left side of instrument panel. Door lock assembly has four remote control rods. One is attached to inside door handle (inside door lock rod). Second is attached to inside door handle (inside door handle rod). Third is attached to outside door handle (outside door handle rod). Fourth rod is attached to lock cylinder of outside door handle (lock cylinder rod). Depressing door lock switch in inside door handle locks and unlocks remaining three doors of vehicle. Depressing driver's side switch and closing door while holding outside handle locks all four doors. Opening this door with a key automatically unlocks all four doors. When door lock switch of front passenger door is depressed, and this door is closed, all doors lock. Two rear doors are locked by depressing door lock switch and closing doors. These doors also have child safety locks which, when activated, prohibit opening doors from inside vehicle.

POWER DOOR KNOB LOCK SWITCH
The door knob lock switch is located in the driver's door. When the door knob lock switch is locked the driver's door is mechanically locked and a ground signal is send to the Electronic Time Control Module "lock" input at C220/4. The electronic time and alarm control module will send a 12 V pulse through the YEL/BRN wire at C220/14 while simultaneously grounding the YEL/BLU wire at C220/13. The doors lock. When the door knob lock switch is in the unlocked position the reverse happens. The driver's door is unlocked mechanically and a ground signal is sent to the electronic time control module unlock input at C220/2. The electronic time and alar control module will send a 12 Volt pulse through the YEL/BLU wire at C220/13 while grounding the YEL/BRN wire at C220/14. The doors unlock.
