Heated Glass Element: Description and Operation

Rear Window Defroster
With the ignition switch in ON or START, battery voltage is applied to both the Coil and the contacts of the rear window defroster relay. When the rear window defroster switch is pressed, the electronic time control module senses ground on the BRN/RED wire through the rear window defroster switch. The electronic time control module will then ground the coil of the rear window defroster relay.

The rear window defroster relay energizes and applies battery voltage to the rear window defroster and the rear window defroster indicator.

Rear window is equipped with heating elements that clear condensation, frost and light snow. Baked on inside surface, heating elements, or grid lines, are connected to vertical buss bar lines that comprise an electrical circuit When dash-mounted switch is pressed, electric current is supplied through defrost relay in fuse box of engine compartment. Should rear glass not be cleared, switch must be pressed again for another 15 minute heating cycle.
