Safety Recall: Wire Harness Fuel Pump Connectors

This bulletin provides information related to a recall on the 1998 and 1999 Sephia for a potential stalling condition. Some 1998 and 1999 Sephia models may have one or both of the following problems in the fuel pump circuit of the rear wire harness:

^ High resistance in ground connector (G300)

^ Corrosion in fuel pump connectors (C304, C305)

Either of these problems could result in loss of fuel pump pressure. If fuel pressure is lost, the engine could stall which could cause a loss of vehicle power and result in an accident.





To correct both situations, Kia is recalling affected 1998 and 1999 Sephia models to replace the C304/C305 connectors with a connector repair kit that incorporates a separate ground wire for the fuel pump. This ground wire at C304/C305 corrects the G300 ground problem.

There is no charge to the customer for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected 1998/1999 Sephia until it has been inspected and repaired, pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.

AFFECTED PRODUCTION RANGE:

1998 and 1999 Sephia models produced from September 3, 1997 to May 17, 1999.
