SUBJECT:
Service Campaign: OBD Information Label
The ECM logic on 1998 and 1999 MY Sephia and Sportage models requires that the engine must be running to access OBD information through the DLC (Data Link Connector). If the engine is not running, incorrect diagnosis and repair could occur which could result in the vehicle failing an emission inspection or smog test.
To correct the possibility of incorrect vehicle diagnosis, repair and smog test failures, Kia is sending an OBD Information label to all affected Sephia and Sportage owners requesting that they attach the label to the lower instrument panel of their vehicles.
For dealer warranty and for owners requesting that a dealer install their label, refer to the information below:
* NOTICE:
There is no charge to the customer for installation of their label. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected Sephia or Sportage until you have attached the OBD Information label using the instructions as shown.
Label Attachment Procedure:
1. Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the surface of the instrument panel where the label is to be attached.
2. Remove the adhesive protective paper from the back of the label.
3. Apply the label to the instrument panel in the position indicated in photos.
AFFECTED PRODUCTION RANGE:
All 1998 and 1999 Sephia and Sportage models.
