Recall Campaign: Hazard Switch
This bulletin provides information related to a recall on 1998MY Sephia models to replace the Hazard Switch. An internal contact problem may exist in the Hazard Switch which could result in inoperative hazard lights and/or inoperative turn signals.
Affected vehicles were produced from 9/1/97 through 4/30/98.
To correct this situation, Kia is recalling affected vehicles with less than 36,000 miles (as of 7/15/02), to replace the Hazard Switch.
* NOTICE
There is no charge to the customer for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected 1998 Sephia until it has been repaired, pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.
WARNING
Failure to follow procedures, or failure to adhere to Warnings, Cautions and Notices could result in personal injury and/or unnecessary vehicle damage/repairs.
INSPECTION:
1. Confirm that the vehicle production date is between 9/1/97 and 4/30/98.
2. Confirm that the vehicle mileage is 36,000 miles or less.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove two screws from instrument panel trim above cluster.
2. Pull instrument panel trim away from instrument panel.
3. Reach behind instrument panel trim and disconnect electrical connector from hazard switch.
4. Squeeze release tabs on top and bottom of hazard switch and remove switch.
5. Slide new hazard switch into instrument panel trim until release tabs latch.
6. Reconnect electrical connector to hazard switch.
7. Reinstall instrument panel trim and two screws above cluster.
8. Check operation of hazard lights and turn signals.
AFFECTED PRODUCTION RANGE:
1998MY Sephia models produced from 9/1/97 through 4/30/98, with less than 36,000 miles.
