Lighting - Dome Lamp or Door Ajar Ind. Stays On

SOURCE: Kia Technician Times

TITLE: Dome Lamp or Door Ajar Indicator Stays On, or ROOM Fuse Blows

APPLIES TO: 98 Sephia

SERVICE TIP:

It has been reported that a number of 98 Sephia's have had a problem with the dome lamp staying on with all the doors closed, ROOM fuses constantly blowing, or the Door Ajar Indicator randomly illuminating. The most common cause of this has been pinched wiring along the driver-side A-pillar trim. If a vehicle comes to your shop with any of these conditions, perform this procedure first.

1. Remove the "A" pillar trim from the driver's side of the vehicle
2. Repair any damaged wiring
3. Tape the wires to the "A" pillar out of the way of the retaining clips.
4. Reinstall the "A" pillar trim piece (making sure the clips do not pinch the wiring against the "A" pillar).

If this doesn't fix your vehicle, you may have to remove the headliner to continue your investigation.
